LED Technology

Light Emitting Diodes, more commonly known as LED, provide many benefits over incandescent lamps. LEDs are solid-state devices that do not use a brittle metal filament that is susceptible to shock and vibration as incandescent lamps use. There are no moving parts to break. Their sealed design provides increased durability and reliability. When using LED lights, you will no longer have to worry about bad connections between the bulb and socket as a result of moisture, dirt and corrosion which is common to incandescent lamps.

Lower Power Consumption

  • Because LED lamps are very energy efficient, they consume much less power than incandescent lamps.
  • Reduced electrical system load of the tow vehicle, extending battery life and possibly reducing fuel consumption. See Hints and Tips for a power usage comparison of LED vs. Incandescent.
  • Reduces the amount of generator run time required to recharge RV batteries through decreased power usage.
  • Reduces the amount of solar panels requird to recharge batteries on RVs.
  • LEDs should be considered as part of your "energy independence" solution for your dry camping / boondocking needs.

Safer than Incandescent

LEDs provide brighter illumination. They also illuminate instantaneous compared to incandescent bulbs. When used as tail/brake lights on your vehicle, your brakes lights are on instantly and at full brightness. This improves safety and makes your truck, cargo trailer or RV more visible to other vehicles during stops and when turning. Studies have shown that LED lights provide following vehicles an extra 24' of stopping distance at 60 mph because the drivers of following vehicles react sooner as a result of the instantaneous illumination of the LED lights.

Longer Life

  • Most incandescent lights are rated for approximately 3,000 hours. LEDs typically last 50,000 hours.or more.
  • If an incandescent light remained ON for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, it would need to be replaced after about 4 1/2 months. However, an LED light would last 5+ years under the same circumstances before requiring replacement.
  • Incandescent bulbs typically last far less then their rated hours as a result of being exposed to road shock and vibration.
